I think the biggest surprise to me was the very basic concept of human centered design. as we discussed in one of our earlier lectures, things like doors are not always designed well for the user and it generally reflects more on the user than on the technology. Human centered design seems so necessary that those designs not developed for the user only seem illogical now. In regards to "playing the whole game" of HCI Design, this teaching model seems to be in sync with the user-centered design we continually discuss. Playing the whole game seems vital to understanding the whole field of HCI design.
