I viewed Gander Mountain’s website
design informative and a great online marketing tool. Their slogan is simple yet elegant: “We live
outdoors.” Passionate with only three
words gets the job done, and well, too.
Although most of the people shopping in the store or online probably do
not actually live outdoors, Gander
Mountain senses the desire for those people.
It is easy to see the Why in their mission as a company; they
believe customers share the same views.
People love being outdoors, fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, etc. Gander Mountain is in business to provide
essentials for living life outdoors.
To the
online platform, Gander Mountain wants customers to see their weekly deals via
the onscreen, center-page advertisement.
They want site visitors to be able to easily navigate the page without
frustration. The page designers
successfully did so. The site is bright
with changing ads and a scroll-down page with store section deals (apparel,
hunting accessories, etc.). They are
obviously running the company right; they’ve been in business since 1960.

Hi Bryan,
ReplyDeleteI think your first paragraph hit it right on the head. Their slogan is clearly the middle of their "golden circle." Some references to the TED talk or Chapter 2 in Designing the Obvious would have strengthened what you were trying to say. Also, what else about the site tries to reinforce that central message? I notice right away that the large ad is a mountain and a huge wild animal; this is not a coincidence. Think about that kind of thing when examining "why." The interface you describe in paragraph 2 is more of your "how."
