My partner and I spent some time talking over what to do on project 3. We came to the conclusion, with the help of first and second hand research, that YouTube is slow to load. This bothered many users so we decided that taking out the comments section would be a great way to alleviate some of the load time. We hid the comments section in a button and when opened the comments were able to be sorted through. So the user could choose which type of comments they wanted and not have to load all of the comments.
The features that we had are: the button that hides the comments, and the tabs that allow for separation of different kinds of comments.
I think that the 60 second deadline will be the most beneficial to the project as it stands. We did not have many parts to the design so this way will be quick and efficient. Using this logic i have decided that the organization of the comments into separate sections when the user opens the page is more of a "nice to have" feature than an essential one. The comments will still not load up right when the video is trying to load. So the load times will still be cut down. But now all the comments will load just like they always have on YouTube. Just from most recent ascending down to least recent.

ReplyDeleteI think you both thought of the right method for your design as it stands and arrived at the right conclusion from the exercise. Even with all the bells and whistles gone, you still are left with a nice idea.
