The website/company I chose for blog 2 was Google.  I chose google because they inspire and fascinate me with the things they do and the ways the go about doing them.  In my opinion, Google is a very good example of this "Why" approach to business.  Page and Brin installed a completely different mindset into Google.  This main mindset is instilled in the culture of the company.  "You are what you do".  They want what they do on an every day basis to be a part of the employee and the culture.  The tech market changes all the time and by thinking this way, they keep up to date with changing technology.
They don't focus on what will make them the most profit, but rather what has the opportunity to make the biggest impact in society.  Time and time again Google makes odd decisions on investments and goals but people still invest in them and they still remain a technological powerhouse.  By thinking beyond profit and focusing on how their products can make the world better gives them this "why" approach.

  1. Hi Patrick,

Really great description of Google's why. It's clearly the leading reason why they're ahead of their other competitors, because on "what" level, they're just a search engine. You make good points. I would ask you to push your argument by describing how they show their "why" in their website(s), since that mission statement isn't posted on their search page but it's clear that they think like this. I would, for example, argue that the first hint of "you are what you do" came with the innovative idea of an "I'm feeling lucky" button from the outset, which made users feel fun or even a little daring. It was an identity statement from the outset that attracted users to think like Google did: the user was announcing that with an action, they were that action. They were what they did.
