What we really need in order to make successive products is
perhaps to have a deep understanding of the activities that were to be
performed, not an understanding of the users. A product designed and made by focusing
on a specific group of users might please that target group at the cost of
losing supports of others outside of that certain group.
An application
or a product that aids users under certain situations can said to be designed
situation-centered. In Project #2, I redesigned a panel of a treadmill in a way
that it would be easy to use even when a user is sprinting at a high speed
(situation-centered). Having to navigate through dozens of small buttons
clumped up in a small panel while sprinting wouldn’t be an easy task to do.
Hey Chris,
ReplyDeleteEverything you put in the first paragraph is correct but your post is on the thin side--you describe one detail mentioned at the start of the chapter but it goes so much deeper than that, and you haven't addressed some questions asked in the assignment. Specifically, your description of situation-centered is not really what the author was saying. I suggest going back and re-reading the chapter and extending your thoughts in the comments.
